The first PI he hired, Francis Thurston, sent him a letter saying that he tracked the origin of a mysterious statue inherited by Olmstead to the seaside town of Innsmouth. Thurston however has now gone missing. Olmstead wants to hire you to pick up the trail in Innsmouth in hopes that getting some answers will help put his nightmares to rest.

Some businesses have suffered thefts which occurred under mysterious circumstances. Although the items haven't been valuable, even the loss of petty baubles has concerned them. The incidents have been leaked publicly by employees and the populace has nicknamed the criminal Gimcrack Jack. The character has even become a recurring character of a local childrens show hosted by a renowned puppet master. This gnome has taken advantage of the publicity from the thefts and turned the character into a bumbling buffoon who couldnt tell a diamond from a jagged piece of glass. Gimcrack Jacks fame is growing not so much from the crimes committed, but by becoming the new favorite marionette among his many in stock. Although his patrons are enjoying the show, how long will it take the real criminal to take vengeance on the puppet master; or, better yet, who is the next merchant to be victimized?
