Integrating The School, The Store & The Library Into One Gaming Community
Summary:
We asked game store owners, librarians and game club sponsors how best to connect and build community--and they answered! Come find out how folks are building connections locally.
Description:
At Trade Day last year we fielded a number of questions about how game stores and libraries could establish contact with school game clubs. We decided the best way to address these questions was to develop a research project to gather data from as many schools, stores and libraries as possible. We will present our findings and lead a discussion about how best to build and integrate the three worlds of gaming in local communities. This presentation has been developed to complement the information shared by keynote speaker Kathleen Mercury.

This seminar discusses the pedagogy of teaching aspiring and novice GMs about GMing via a hands-on workshop with "GM coaches" to observe and give feedback.
Description:
Many would-be gamemasters are dissuaded from even trying to run a game by the idea that they will disappoint their friends, freeze up in the moment, or similar concerns. We've successfully run a hands-on "GM 101" workshop at Gen Con and other cons to walk participants through prepping a scenario and running it for each other, round robin fashion, with dedicated "GM coaches" providing feedback on their use of the Describe-Listen-Judge cycle of GMing. We'll describe the gamified pedagogy of GM 101, assess its effectiveness, and walk attendees through segments of the workshop.

This is an active audience-participation session modeling an engaging blended education approach for earth science and games/storytelling.
