Accessibility Is Not A Bolt-On - Universal Design for Creators
Summary:
Universal Design is a process that incorporates the needs of all into a single beautiful and functional end product. Its been around for almost 40 years, so why are we still so bad at it?
Description:
The term Universal Design was coined by an architect in 1985. The core concept is to design from the ground up to remove barriers, rather than doing it as a checklist at the end. Recently, this concept has gone beyond physical limitations and now includes designing for neurodiversity. Ethically, you want your product to be equitable the ability to reach additional audiences is a free bonus. Well discuss the core philosophy of Universal Design, look at a few case studies, review some basic rules, and maybe even have some time for some role-play. Handouts with resources will be provided.
